HydraSpecma, Denmark
HydraSpecma in Skjern has stopped drafts from the company's busiest gate and was spared to invest in a new heating system (at another gate).
HydraSpecma addressed issues of cold drafts at their busiest gates in a large warehouse. By implementing Frico air curtains, they significantly improved the working environment, especially for employees near the central gate, and avoided the need for a new heating system at another gate.
Frico provided custom air curtain solutions tailored to the specific needs of each gate. At the central gate, two standard modules were combined to create an individual solution, optimizing the height and effectively heating the lower portion of the gate. The air curtains were programmed to follow gate movements, ensuring minimal noise and an improved working environment.
Frico advised on setting up a system at the warehouse's exit room gate, where the air curtains functioned not only as draft prevention but also as a heating system. This innovative approach spared HydraSpecma from replacing an outdated heating system, offering a cost-effective and efficient solution.
HydraSpecma supplies specialized hydraulic solutions especially for agriculture and the wind industry. The company's large warehouse in Skjern had noticeable problems with cold and drafts at the building's two gates.
"In particular, the six employees who were closest to the central gate, which leads directly out into the open, were exposed, even though we had installed a high-speed gate here. Today, 26 people work in the same area without inconvenience. So in addition to less drafts, we have also gained greater flexibility in the use of the space", says building manager Kristian Toft.
At this central gate, two standard modules are built together for an individual solution, guaranteeing an optimal height in relation to the room's proportions. The air curtain is cost-effectively set to only heat the bottom two metres. The system is set to follow the gate's movements and switch off as soon as possible to minimize noise and improve the working environment.
At another gate at the warehouse’s exit room, Frico has advised on setting up a system where the thermostat setting and fan speed cause the air curtains to simultaneously function as a heating system. In this way, HydraSpecma was spared to replace the out-of-date heating system of the exit room.
"Both facilities are programmed according to their surroundings and primary task. HydraSpecma has been awarded a turnkey contract: delivery, assembly, set-up of controls and adjustment of the air curtains. We are also happy to provide an annual inspection so that the parameters match and the air curtains continue to work optimally", says Torben Bendix Nielsen, technical internal sales and technical support at Frico A/S.
"I have to admit that I was skeptical about whether air curtains would be worth the investment: would warm, horizontal air really be able to keep a 4x4 meter gate free of drafts", says building manager Kristian Toft.
A simple demonstration convinced him that it was worth trying. An energy subsidy for the establishment costs helps to ensure a satisfactory payback period, even if HydraSpecma is currently having difficulty accounting for the total future energy savings due to a recent change in energy supply.
We expect that there will also be a saving in energy consumption, but comfort, well-being and good work environment for our employees is the primary goal for our installation of air curtains
Building Manager, HydraSpecma
The two air curtain installations at HydraSpecma may lead to similar actions at the company's five other locations. After the noticeable positive effects in the large storage hall, wishes from the employees to the building manager pull strongly in that direction.
